Civilization VII

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is set to launch on February 11, 2025, for PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The game promises to bring new features and a fresh perspective to the beloved series. One of the most significant changes in Civilization VII is the ability to mix and match leaders and civilizations.

This means players can choose their leader independently of their civilization, creating unique combinations of special abilities and bonuses. Ed Beach, the game’s creative director, explained that this feature was a priority for Civilization VII. “We’ve known for a long time that our community has wanted a ‘build my own civilization’ toolkit,” he said.

The game is designed according to a development philosophy where one-third of the game is new, another third is updated, and the final third stays the same. This approach allows the game to retain the core mechanics long-time players love while introducing new elements.

New features reshape classic gameplay

Civilization VII is divided into three historical eras: antiquity, exploration, and modern. Each era contains legacy paths in four familiar categories: economic, military, cultural, and science.

Players can change their civilization at various points in the game based on their choices and legacy paths.

For example, a player could start the Exploration Age with Aksum and later evolve into another economy-focused civ like the Dutch or a militaristic civ like the Spanish. The game’s system listens to events happening in the game world, triggering thousands of potential stories and events, both major and minor. Small choices can impact the course of history in the game.

Gwendoline Christie, known for her roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Star Wars,” will be the narrator in Civilization VII. Her distinct voice will guide players through the intricate strategic gameplay the series is known for. Fans eagerly anticipate the release of Civilization VII and how it will bring a new level of depth and flexibility to the series.
