Samsung recently concluded the launch of the Fold 6 and Galaxy Watch Ultra with a tease of its upcoming XR platform. A new report from Business Insider offers more details on the timeline for releasing Samsung’s much-anticipated Android XR headset, codenamed “Moohan.
According to the report, Samsung plans to release a developer version of the headset in October, with a consumer launch slated for March 2025. Specific details about the availability and public announcement have yet to be disclosed.
It remains unclear whether Samsung will hold a consumer-facing keynote in October to announce the product or keep the hardware details under wraps until closer to the release date. Initially, the headset was intended for a Q1 release this year, coinciding with the launch of the Apple Vision Pro in February. However, the release has been postponed multiple times due to concerns that the device was not yet ready to impress users.

Looking ahead, there is internal speculation that Samsung may be the first to develop glasses integrated with Google’s AR software. However, Google does not plan to create consumer XR hardware, focusing instead on supporting partners like Samsung.
As part of this strategy, Google recently repurposed its display prototypes, created with the microLED company it acquired in 2022, to showcase its software to partners. This shift was highlighted when the display team was absorbed into the Android XR division last month. With Samsung setting a clear timeline, it appears the development is now back on track.
Fans and developers alike eagerly await further announcements and developments as the October release date approaches.
